Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is used for the detection and sizing of internal defects, flaws or discontinuities in piping, castings, forgings, weldments or other components which may otherwise go undetected. UT is an accurate, cost-efficient, and a rapid process that provides high resolution results which often used in situations where radiographic examination is not possible. Ultrasonic inspection uses high frequency sound energy to conduct examinations and perform measurements. It is capable of providing simple thickness checks and corrosion or erosion verification using an “A” scan procedure or more in depth survey using a “B” scan technique after which a combination of NDT methods are used to verify inspection results acceptable according to the test specification or requirements.
